Most deliverability advice is universal and most deliverability failure is not.
The authentication layer is identical for everyone. Since February 2024, Google and Yahoo have enforced authentication requirements on bulk senders, and the rules do not vary by vertical. If you want the full pre-send audit, we cover it in the 18-check deliverability guide.
What does vary — and what causes most industry-specific failures — is everything downstream of authentication.
What is identical everywhere
- SPF, DKIM, DMARC and alignment requirements
- The 0.3% spam complaint threshold that triggers enforcement at major providers
- One-click unsubscribe for bulk senders
- Bounce rate discipline — under 2%, ideally under 1%
- Warmup: roughly 30–50 sends per warmed mailbox per day
What genuinely differs
Regulatory constraint on content
Financial services and healthcare carry content restrictions that have nothing to do with spam filters and everything to do with regulators. Lending communications carry disclosure requirements; patient communications carry privacy obligations that make personalisation legally fraught, not just technically difficult.
Transactional volume mixed with outreach
E-commerce, logistics and healthcare send high volumes of operational mail — order confirmations, dispatch notices, appointment reminders — alongside any outreach. These must be separated onto different subdomains. A cold campaign that damages reputation on the domain sending your dispatch notices is a materially worse outcome than a failed campaign.
The idempotency problem: in healthcare and logistics especially, a retried job without idempotency means the same patient or customer receives the same message twice. Duplicate sends drive complaints faster than almost anything else.
Seasonality and send windows
Education runs on admission cycles. Travel runs on booking seasons. Construction correlates with tender calendars. Sending a warmed mailbox into a dead season wastes reputation you spent weeks building.
Recipient tolerance
IT and engineering audiences complain more readily and reply less. Reply rates in technical departments are among the lowest of any function, which means the same campaign carries a worse complaint-to-reply ratio and burns reputation faster.

The order to debug in
Authentication first, bounce rate second, complaint rate third, volume fourth, copy last. Teams reliably do this backwards and spend two weeks rewriting subject lines while a DMARC typo sits in DNS.
Quotarider ships all 18 industry packs. Records renamed, stages preconfigured, and the chain followed from first touch through to the paid invoice — so you can see which activity produced collected revenue rather than bookings.

Does email deliverability differ by industry?
The authentication layer does not — SPF, DKIM, DMARC and the complaint thresholds are identical everywhere. What differs is operational mail volume, regulatory content constraints, seasonality of send windows, and how readily a given audience complains.
Should transactional and outreach email use the same domain?
No. Any business sending order confirmations, appointment reminders or dispatch notices should isolate those onto a separate subdomain from cold outreach, so a failed campaign cannot damage operational delivery.
Which audiences are hardest to reach by email?
IT and engineering functions consistently show the lowest reply rates and among the highest complaint sensitivity, which means outreach to them burns sender reputation faster for the same volume.
What is the spam complaint threshold?
Roughly 0.3% at the major providers. Above that, enforcement follows. Complaint rate is primarily a targeting metric rather than a content one.
