Interview tips panel

27 tips. Filter by role.

Click a role. Every tip is one behaviour you can rehearse tonight; ask the Vera coach in the corner for the lesson behind it.

sdrResearch three things before any interview

The product, two named customers and the pricing model. Then one thing you would change. It is exactly what you would do before a prospect call, and interviewers know it.

sdrBring numbers from anywhere

Student jobs, side projects, volunteering: “called 60 alumni, booked 11” is a sales number. Adjectives are not.

sdrExpect a live cold email

Trigger, pattern, one question, under 60 words. Say your reasoning out loud after you write it.

Example
Subject: your new head of sales Hi Priya — saw the hire. Teams at that moment usually find outbound and CRM disagree. Worth 15 minutes?
sdrAnswer objections with a question

“Too expensive” → “Compared with what you are doing today, or with another tool?” Curiosity scores; force does not.

sdrHave a feedback story where you were wrong

Interviewers ask about coachability. A story where you disagreed, tested it, were wrong and changed is worth ten where you were right.

aePick a lost deal you understand

Stage, reason, what you changed. “No decision, because I never confirmed the budget owner” is strong. “They went with a competitor” is not an answer.

aeMock discovery: no slides

Trigger, current process, quantified pain, who decides, when. Present only when asked.

aeKnow your forecast accuracy

If you have never measured it, say so and describe how you would: forecast vs actual per quarter. Honesty here is rare and noticed.

aeTalk about the steps, not the win

Interviewers discount “I closed $1.2M”. They rate “I moved 14 deals through discovery with written exit criteria and closed 5”.

managerBring a 30/60/90 with numbers

Lists built, sends, replies, meetings, first deal — per phase. A plan without numbers is a wish.

managerSay what you would remove from the CRM

Hiring managers want fewer fields and more accuracy. Name the three fields you would delete and the one you would make mandatory (next step).

managerCoaching means a recording

Describe one call you coached, the moment you paused, what you said, and what the rep did differently next time.

revopsDraw the attribution chain

Email → reply → deal → paid invoice. Say where each tool in a typical stack breaks it and how you would join it. Whiteboards win RevOps interviews.

revopsData integrity answer

“How do you keep the CRM clean?” — fill from conversations, mandatory next step, verification on import, suppression in one place, audit log.

revopsThe AI question

Propose-and-approve: agents draft and classify, people sign, everything is logged. Name what you would never automate (sends, deletes, stage changes).

behaviouralStructure every story: context, action, number, lesson

Thirty seconds of context, the specific action you took, the number that moved, what you do differently now.

behaviouralPrepare the “tell me about a failure”

Pick one with a real cost and a real change. Interviewers are checking whether you can talk about failure without flinching.

behaviouralRemote roles: describe your operating rhythm

When you prospect, when you work replies, when you update the pipeline, how you signal availability. Remote managers hire for rhythm.

negotiationAsk what percentage of the team hit quota

Under 50% means the OTE is fiction. Negotiate ramp length and a non-recoverable draw rather than base.

negotiationAsk how the number is set

Top-down from a revenue target or bottom-up from capacity? Bottom-up quotas are hit more often.

negotiationAgree the day-90 number in writing

Meetings, pipeline created, first closed deal. It protects you and your manager equally.

hiringHiring: write the rubric before the interview

Four things — preparation, listening, handling the no, would you buy — scored 1–5. Score independently, then compare.

hiringHiring: one live task always

A 15-minute writing or call task predicts more than an hour of questions.

hiringHiring: reference-check the number

Ask the former manager for the attainment figure directly. Mismatches are common and disqualifying.

sdrClose the interview like a call

“Based on what we discussed, is there anything that would stop you moving me forward?” Then listen.

sdrSend a follow-up that adds one thing

Not “thanks for your time”. A one-line summary of what you heard and one idea you did not get to. Same rule as a cold email follow-up.

prepUse Vera in the product to rehearse

Ask the Academy coach for a lesson, then practise the answer out loud with a timer. Two minutes maximum per story.
