Is cold email legal in India?
Short answer: No single anti-spam email law; personal data falls under the DPDP Act and calls under TRAI rules.
India has no single anti-spam law for email. Personal data is governed by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, whose rules are being phased in. Calls and SMS are separately regulated by TRAI: promotional and service calls must come from registered 140- or 1600-series numbers through a licensed carrier after DLT registration.
