ChatGPT Ads strategy for B2B: how to test the newest ad channel without wasting the budget

ChatGPT Ads went from a closed pilot to a self-serve channel in a few months. For B2B, the opportunity is real — buyers do long research conversations there — and so is the risk of paying for curious clicks. Here is how to run a test that answers the only question that matters: does it produce meetings?

Where ChatGPT Ads stand at the end of October 2026

  • Self-serve since 5 May 2026 through OpenAI's Ads Manager, with Reach (views), Clicks and Conversions objectives. Costs and minimums →
  • Who sees them: logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers see no ads — which matters for B2B, because many senior buyers pay for ChatGPT.
  • Countries: OpenAI added 26 more countries on 21 October 2026, taking ads to more than 80 markets. India went live on 29 August 2026, billed in rupees; at launch, Indian advertisers bought through OpenAI's sales team and partners rather than self-serve, with a reported daily minimum of ₹725. Check Ads Manager for what is open in your country today.
  • New formats: multi-image ads (4–6 square images, one link) opened in beta on 26 October; visual ads next to image generation started testing in the US in October.
  • Creative enhancements are on by default from 30 October 2026: ChatGPT can rewrite headlines and descriptions, translate, resize images and even change the destination URL — and those versions can run without your review. You can opt out in Ads Manager under Manage settings.

The B2B case for — and against

For: the person asking ChatGPT "how do I get IndiaMART leads into my CRM" or "compare cold email tools that send from my own mailbox" is closer to a decision than someone scrolling a feed. The ad appears next to a relevant answer, labelled, without changing the answer.

Against: the paying, senior users you most want are on ad-free plans; targeting is conversational context rather than job title; and the channel is too new for reliable benchmarks. Treat it as a test with a stop rule, not a line item.

A five-step test plan

1. Pick three high-intent conversations

Write down the questions your buyers ask just before they buy — comparisons, "how to", "best X for Y". Each becomes one ad group with its own landing page. Avoid broad educational topics; they bring students and researchers.

2. Decide on creative enhancements before you launch

For regulated industries or precise B2B claims, opt out of automatic enhancements at the account level so nothing runs that you did not approve. If you leave them on, check that your landing-page UTMs survive a changed destination URL — OpenAI does not yet document that.

3. Tag every link and catch every lead in the CRM

Set UTM parameters at campaign, ad group or ad level (the ad level wins). The lead's first touch should be stored on the contact record, so when they book a meeting three weeks later the meeting is credited to ChatGPT Ads, not to "direct".

4. Start small and hold steady for four weeks

One campaign, a fixed daily budget at or slightly above the minimum, no changes for the first two weeks. Spend reports lag seven to eight hours and conversions 24–48 hours, so daily tinkering is reacting to incomplete data.

5. Judge on cost per meeting against Google and LinkedIn

At week four, put ChatGPT Ads in the same table as your other channels: spend, contacts, meetings, opportunities. If its cost per meeting is within range of your best channel, scale it. If it brings clicks but no meetings, cut it and keep watching the organic side.

Don't forget the free half

An ad buys a slot beside the answer. Being named in the answer is free and usually worth more. Track whether ChatGPT and the other assistants recommend you for your buyers' questions, and fix the pages that should be cited. Generative engine optimisation for B2B →

How Quotarider handles ChatGPT Ads

Questions

Are ChatGPT ads worth it for B2B?

Potentially, for high-intent research questions — but the channel is new and many senior buyers use ad-free paid plans. Run a four-week test with a fixed budget and judge it on cost per meeting, not clicks.

Are ChatGPT ads available in India?

Yes. Ads went live in India on 29 August 2026 for Free and Go users, billed in rupees. At launch Indian advertisers bought through OpenAI's sales team and partners; check Ads Manager for current self-serve access.

Can I stop ChatGPT from changing my ads?

Yes. Creative enhancements are on by default from 30 October 2026, but you can opt out in Ads Manager under Manage settings, at account or campaign level.

How do I track ChatGPT ad leads to revenue?

Add UTM tags to every destination URL, store the first touch on the CRM contact, and compare spend with meetings and paid revenue in the same report as your other channels.
