Google Ads for B2B in 2026: 10 strategies that produce pipeline, not form fills
Google Ads will find you exactly what you ask for. Most B2B accounts ask for form fills and get them — from students, job seekers and competitors. These ten strategies teach the platform what a real customer looks like.
1. Track the outcome, not the form
Import offline conversions from your CRM: when a lead becomes a qualified meeting, an opportunity or a customer, send that back to Google (hashed email or phone, matched to the click). Enhanced conversions for leads makes the match work even without a click ID. This is the prerequisite for everything below — without it, automation optimises for cheap form fills.
2. Give each stage a value
Assign values by funnel stage — for example a meeting, an opportunity, a closed deal at its real value — worked out from your close rate and average deal size. Then bid on value (Maximize Conversion Value, later Target ROAS) instead of raw conversion count.
3. Start with exact and phrase match on buying keywords
"CRM for manufacturers", "IndiaMART CRM integration", "cold email software pricing" — keywords with a product and a buying modifier. Leave "what is a CRM" to your content.
4. Build negative keyword lists before you spend
Account-level lists for jobs, salary, free, course, training, PDF, template, definition, login and support. Review the search terms report weekly; add negatives as phrase match so variants are caught too.
5. Test AI Max for Search as an experiment, not a switch
AI Max is an add-on to Search campaigns (out of beta since April 2026): it expands matching beyond your keywords, rewrites ad text from your site and can choose the landing page. Turn it on in a 50/50 experiment against your current campaign, and only once offline conversions and value-based bidding are in place. If precise messaging matters, switch off text customisation.
6. Treat Performance Max as a supplement
For most B2B accounts, Search is the core and Performance Max is the add-on — after you have Customer Match lists and value-based bidding. Apply account-level negatives (they affect PMax's Search inventory) and watch lead quality closely.
7. One landing page per intent
An ad for "IndiaMART CRM integration" should land on a page about exactly that, with the form above the fold and the price visible. Sending every ad to the homepage is the most common — and most expensive — B2B mistake.
8. Run competitor and alternative campaigns carefully
"Alternative to X" searchers are in-market. Bid on them with an honest comparison page. Avoid using competitors' trademarks in ad text where that is restricted.
9. Keep budgets stable
Google can spend up to about 30.4× your daily budget in a month and up to twice the daily budget on a given day. Change budgets and targets weekly in steps of 10–20%, not daily, so bidding can learn.
10. Judge every campaign on cost per meeting
Put Google next to LinkedIn, Meta, ChatGPT Ads and email in one table: spend, contacts, meetings, opportunities, revenue. A campaign with a great quality score and no pipeline is a donation. Pause it and move the budget.
What about ads in Google's AI Mode?
Google is testing ad formats inside AI Mode answers (announced at Google Marketing Live 2026), in the US and in English. For most B2B teams the practical move today is the same as for AI search generally: make sure your pages answer the buyer's question clearly, so you are cited whether or not you pay.
Questions
Does Google Ads work for B2B?
Yes, for categories buyers already search for. It works best when you import offline conversions from your CRM so Google optimises for meetings and customers rather than form fills.
Should B2B companies use Performance Max?
Usually as a supplement to Search, once Customer Match lists and value-based bidding are in place. Search with exact and phrase match on buying keywords stays the core.
What is AI Max for Search?
An add-on for Google Search campaigns that broadens query matching, customises ad text from your site and can choose the landing page. Test it in an experiment before rolling it out.
What is a good cost per lead for B2B Google Ads?
It depends on deal size. Judge campaigns on cost per qualified meeting and revenue instead — a cheap lead that never meets is the most expensive kind.
